Run, Savor, Reflect: A Pomalo Approach to Washington, D.C. Travel

My recent trip to Washington D.C offered a perfect blend of movement, culture, and community that helped to refresh my body and mind. Months ago I entered the Rock ‘n’ Roll running series.

My journey began with a 5K charity run for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital—a meaningful way to move my body while contributing to a greater cause. Running mindfully through the city streets, feeling the energy of fellow participants, and knowing each step supports a worthy mission brought a sense of fulfillment that went beyond just physical exercise, and the medal.

Slow Coffee at Founding Farmers
After the race, I enjoyed coffee and tried the buttermilk pancakes at Founding Farmers, a beloved D.C. spot known for its farm-to-table philosophy. I loved the beautiful coffee cups and plates.  The well-curated breakfast experience.

Scenic Walks by the National Mall
Instead of cramming in a packed sightseeing schedule, we decided to take a slow and leisurely walk by the National Mall.

We truly took in the grandeur of historic landmarks like the Washington Monument, not as a tourist checking off a list but as a traveler fully present in the moment.  Another important stop for us was a visit to the National Archive Museum, where we saw the Declaration of Independence. Standing before this historical document fostered a sense of connection to the past.

Savour a Nourishing Meal at The Capital Grille
We ended our trip by savouring a delicious steak dinner at Capital Grille. The evening was about enjoying quality ingredients and engaging in meaningful conversation.  Just look at this incredible coconut cream pie, where every bite was flavourful and creamy. We decided to take a 1.5-mile walk down Pennsylvania Avenue back to our hotel, which was a lovely way to see the evening city lights.
